Police note

All the guests received the exact same note, excepting the address on the front. It would appear the victim was keen on sharing some important information with his guests. Could this be motive for the murder?

Attn Staff:

Please do not touch, move, or clean the stone disk fragments, as Dr. Freidrich has asked they be placed on both of the “outside solar tables”. I need not inform you what he means by this, as any qualified house staff member would understand.

Note to the clock repairman

Dear Sir Clocksmith,

This is the third letter I have written, informing you that the repairs you had performed on the Freidrich Family Grandfather clock did nothing to remedy the inaccuracies in keeping time which had initially instigated my procurement of your services. Perhaps the quality and complexity of our clock has bested your skills. I trust you will not remit payment on this service until this is rectified, lest my reviews of your capabilities reflect the state of my timepiece: slow, and 90 minutes late.

Sincerely,

C. Jeeves, Head Butler

Coroner’s Report - Inspection of the Body & Scene

Coroner’s Report:

- Based on the scene, the killer acted alone.
- Dr. Friedrich was stabbed in the leg, cutting an artery. This was certainly fatal.
- The victim appears to have been locked in the room to die, either by himself or the attacker.
- Blood splatter shows the victim removed the weapon himself, after many minutes of trying to escape. The murder weapon, however, has not been found.

Letter to Hanz

My boy,

I write to you in regard to a decision which will impact the family home. Jeeves has implored I allow him to block off the hidden exit to the closet behind the bar, to “stop the damn American scullery woman” from sneaking a few drinks in the evening. I know you always loved your secret passageway and could not in good conscience brick it up without your approval.

Sincerely,

Father

Letter to Hanz from Jeeves

Master Hanz,

As the head butler of the house, I feel I must inform you of your father’s malaise. Since the passing of your mother, he has not had someone with which to enjoy his passion of codes and hidden locations for his ‘clues’. He has taken to asking the staff all to learn his favorite ciphers. Even with us to distract him, however, his grief does seem to have dulled his otherwise sharp mind. I overheard him the other day telling the maid that he had buried his ‘treasure’, your mother Theresa, in Portugal, when we all know she was interred in the family plot in France. Given these things, I would implore you to return and visit, try your hand at bringing your father out of the past.

Yours in Service,

C. Jeeves, Head Butler

A hastily scrawled note

Jeeves – Please move the music box from the games room to the music room before the winter party. I suspect Olaf will refuse to use his earhorn in a social environment, proud fool he is. Between the bar and singing along with the music box, he may find cause to drink himself blind whilst rendering the rest of us deaf.

Incomplete Witness Statement

A crumpled version of what looks like a witness statement, partly filled out:

Inspector,

I am writing to you as I feel a heavy burden of guilt. I deceived your colleague, or as is more correct, I omitted important details. Mr. Jeeves did send me to protect the valuable liquor from Mr. Olaf, but this was not the only task I was asked to perform. Miss Abigail also spoke with me shortly after she arrived. She asked that I place a camera in the secret passageway, which I did when I pursued the liquor. I know not why she asked this of me, but I can only assume it was because of the guests in the library. I am not sure who it was that was in there, but I distinctly heard two voices, a man and a woman. And they were decidedly not...lacking in familiarity with one another. But I have said too much. If I am found to be a gossip, I’ll lose my post and my referral. I am not even sure I have the strength to put this in your hands.

Please forgive my deception,

S. McCarthy

Ms. Conway,
Please see to it that you are not present on the main floor whilst the guests are present. As you are new staff, they may not be familiar with you, or your unique accent or idioms. I wish only to avoid offending these men and women of status, lest it cost you your position here.

Printed Message

A typed out letter. The signature area is blank.

I, Dr. Karl Freidrich, do accuse Senator Richard Cardigan of pillaging, extortion, and black market trading of antiquities. I have secreted away evidence of these crimes, and will produce it in court, once diplomatic immunity has been revoked.

With me, Ms. Abigail Grey and Ms. Ana Rostikova have witnessed the evidence, and will swear to its veracity. Sir William Themes and Mr. Olaf Olafson have both profited from Senator Cardigan’s illicit trade, but will bear witness against him in the falsification of the items’ providence.

I also have reason to believe he is responsible for my wife's death, but I do not have evidence of this. Yet.

Signed,

Dr. Karl Freidrich

Col. Sebastian Emerald, Esq.

Introduction

Police Brief

The year is 1929, and the eccentric Dr. Karl Freidrich, renowned archaeologist, has been murdered. The police arrived to find Dr. Freidrich’s staff, as well as a number of notable socialites, collectors, and political figures had gathered at the house for a gala, celebrating Dr. Freidrich’s recent return from a far off dig. Following protocol, the police removed the body and interviewed the witnesses, both guests and staff. However, at midnight, the police fled the house, claiming to have heard the whirring of gears, and doors slamming themselves shut. It would appear that Dr. Freidrich, ironically, had a deadman switch, which turned the house into an elaborate safe. Every hour, on the hour, the house resets, locking the doors and ejecting any who remained within. The police now refuse to set foot inside the manor. The head detective on the case has reached out to you, a group of investigative specialists. You will need to enter the house, traverse the traps, shut off the deadman switch, and maybe solve the murder in the process.

You have 1 hour to solve and escape The Mystery at Murder Manor!
